Schmidt Science Fellows

The Schmidt Science Fellows is a prestigious postdoctoral fellowship that supports exceptional early-career scientists to pursue interdisciplinary research that transcends traditional boundaries. It provides funding, mentorship, and a global network to help fellows become future leaders in science and society.

While working at Visceral, Schmidt Science Fellows tasked us to redesign their website. Our goal was to deliver a timeless, user-friendly website with an updated layout and navigation that reflects the program’s evolution and illustrates clearer fellow journeys and impact.

The Challenge

The fellow journey was confusing and current structure was difficult to manage.

The Solution

Revamped the fellow directory to showcase a clearer journey and pivot. Structured their profiles to allow for the complexities and range that come with different journeys and allowed for easy site management.

The number of fellows have increased massively since the site was built and the current infrastructure made it hard to find specific fellows.

Developed a robust filtering and search system that allows audience to easily find relevant fellows.

Content needed to reflect the program’s evolution. Information was overwhelming and storytelling videos/photos were getting lost.

The Solution

Designed an engaging new layout using the breadth of media assets combined with interactive elements to tell a more compelling story.

Needed to highlight the advanced interdisciplinary nature of the program as a key differentiator to other fellowships.

The Solution

Architected a robust cross-linking and contextual system that allowed fluid discovery of related fellows/stories. Created a new content type for thematic impact called “impact stories”
